The Precipice as a Comfort Zone: Essays on the Challenges in Nigeria's Nation-building Processes

The Precipice as a Comfort Zone is a collection of essays from the author’s newspaper column and others published on various media platforms between 2017 and 2020. Though most of the essays are on the challenges in Nigeria’s nation-building processes, there are also some that focus on the issues of democracy, international relations and the country’s political economy. The essays portray Nigeria as seemingly making the precipice its comfort zone – neither falling over the cliff nor findings its feet to walk confidently on firm grounds.

Jideofor Adibe is a Professor of International Relations and Political Science at Nasarawa State University Keffi, Nigeria and founder of Adonis & Abbey Publishers, a London and Abuja-based publisher of professional books, peer reviewed and indexed academic journals and the online newspaper, The News Chronicle. He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Political Science from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka; a PhD in International Development Studies from Roskilde University, Denmark; and an LLM in Media Law from City University, London, United Kingdom. He has consulted for a number of organisations including the Brookings Institution (USA), Centre for Democracy and Development (Nigeria) and the National Peace Committee (Nigeria). He has also published profusely in many peer-reviewed academic journals and is the author, editor or co-editor of seven other books.
